Golda Meir , born Golda Mabovitch , was born on May 3, 1898 in Ukraine , the Russian Empire. She was one of the most prominent women of Israel and the world being a teacher , kibbutznik , stateswoman and the 4th elected prime minister of Israel.
Holding the office of prime minister , she was the fourth woman in the world to do so and Israels only female leader ; she held the title of “Iron Lady” breifly before it was given to british leader Margaret Thatcher.
Strong-willed and fiercely protective of Israel, she was the international symbol of Israeli resolve.
